So a bunch of us are in the computer lab one day. Heidi is sitting next to me, looking up dance studios in Chicago that offer interesting/ inexpensive/ nearby-ish options for adult beginners. I mention that UIC has some kindsa classes. Heidi promptly discovers that THAT DAY is the deadline to sign up for UIC intramural dodgeball and immediately tries to get a team together. I am somehow recruited on the spot.
I have never played dodgeball in my life. Neither had a lot of the other people who got roped into this.
Within a few days, everyone's mild initial interest was replaced with "wow, yeah, this really isn't a good week for me, I'm gonna have to back out," and the team ended up dissolving before it ever really began. But before it did, Heidi convinced me to design a few mascots for our team (the ARTFUL DODGERS, 'cos we were a bunch of artists playing dodgeball AAAHAHAHAHAHA).
Yeah, so. Pity we didn't actually get to put these on t-shirts. :)

Hey, there's nothing stopping you from still putting them on t-shirts!
ReplyDelete(I love how Heidi went from dancing for adult beginners to dodgeball. For what it's worth, dodgeball was one of my favorite gym activities growing up, and had I been a student in your program, I would have been happy to be an Artful Dodger.)
(I also want to say that I love the uterus design, and would be proud to wear it, despite my lack of an actual uterus. I'll admit the dinosaur might be less awkward, though.)
ReplyDeletei owe you one tshirt, josy conklin!
ReplyDeletehahaha. very cool. also, <3 them sketches.
ReplyDeleteUm, these are fracking awesome. I would wear that shirt proudly around BVIS, except I wasn't on the team...Maybe I'll take a sharpie and write on the back "#1 FANGIRL"
