doodles!

We interrupt this illustration-dump to bring you a sketchdump.

Although I very carefully brought my most crucial art pens to Jersey with me (for this two-week break between classes), I neglected to bring a sketchbook. So I've been messing with brush settings (etc.) in both Photoshop and Corel Painter to try to recreate something that feels/looks natural to me.

Don't get me wrong--I love working on a tablet. But sometimes, the skritch skritch of a new brush pen on a toothy paper is just... nice.

Working naturally also tends to make my rough, rough sketches look a little better (see previous post). :)

I love the colors in the middle one.

  2. You're welcome. :) And aren't you up early! (I'm thinking 9:41 on a Saturday morning is early, and you've already been up at least two hours. Yeesh, don't you realize you're on vacation? ;)

I also wanted to comment on the skritch, skritch, because that resonated with me at least as much as the drawings themselves. I have a similar attitude and experience regarding photography—taking pictures with any camera, even a compact digital, is fun; but there's something about that "shutter clack" of old film SLRs....

And despite the time stamp on this comment, I did start it at 9:41. I'm slow, but not THAT slow (I wanted to do some major editing/composing, but this text widget was having none of it).

[Oh, but now that I've gone to preview and then clicked the edit link, this widget is suddenly all "oh sure, you can edit however you like". *sigh* Anyway, I was going to bring up typewriters too. (I'm partial to the IBM Selectric.) I guess that's vaguely ironic.]

  3. Oh, I guess the time stamps are either not Daylight-Saving-aware, or are in Central Time (Chicago time!). Still, 8:41 is early. :)
