Good Christian men, rejoice
With heart and soul and voice;
Give ye heed to what we say:
News! News!
Jesus Christ is born today...
-"Good Christian Men, Rejoice," John Mason Neale, 19th century
Merry Christmas, ya'll! Here's a sketch of a voicebox (with some vocal cords) for ya.

bone saw

One of the awesome parts of gross anatomy was the BONE SAW. One of our instructors always got very excited when he got to pull the bone saws out of the closet (men + power tools, I'm guessing), but the rest of us...didn't. There is nothing quite like the smell of smoking human flesh.
You will note the past tense of the first two sentences of the above paragraph. I'm home for the holidays, and I managed to survive Gross Anatomy! There's still craniofacial anatomy looming next semester--assuming they actually let me take the class (long story, I'll get into it at some later time)--but we'll see how that goes.
Some of you noticed the new header. I'm not a huge fan of it, and I'm hoping to come up with an alternative while I'm home (and add some extra widgets and fancier CSS). The REASON for initiating this change was so this blog would sort of coordinate with the portfolio site (<--click!) that I created for one of my classes. I coded that myself, thank you thank you ::preen preen::. The, uh, content of the home page and bio page are kind of lame; I was struggling with what to write at 2:30AM the night before it was due, and I haven't come up with anything better yet. But anyway. :)

myosin yourosin hisosin herosin

Wow Josy, way to show up after disappearing for like a month.
I know! I have been busy. Turns out grad school isn't a cakewalk. But I have a new header! It's big and distracting. You love it. Admit it.
Great, yeah, whatever. So what's this new thing you've posted? A comic strip?
Nope! For one of our final assignments, we illustrated the sliding filament theory of muscle contraction. So these are myosin and actin filaments. Sliding. Theoretically.
Josy, I don't get it.
Well, my target audience was the type of people who subscribe to a scholarly journal like Cell or Annual Journal of Molecular Filaments or something. And these images are supposed to accompany a review article.
Okay... but... I don't get it.
Then sit back and admire my beautiful lobsterclaw-myosin-head. You can appreciate that it's pretty awesome even if you don't understand science.
And if you can't, well, go away. And look at some other awesome blogs.
